Going to an island destination is a dream for many people. You’re going to a distant land, and everything from the temperature and the people are different. Before you take the next step in hopping on a plane, think of what you need to do to prepare yourself. Here are some things to do before traveling to the Caribbean.
Get Your Passport
Before you decide to travel to St. John, make sure you have your passport. While you don’t need one to enter the country, you might want to go elsewhere for an extended vacation. Maybe you want to go to Jamaica or another destination that requires a valid U.S. Passport.
It’s better to be safe than sorry. Make sure to apply for a passport a few months in advance to get clearance. If you need to expedite things, it’ll cost extra.
Just be clear on where you’re traveling because you don’t need a passport for island hopping to St. John, St. Croix, St. Thomas, and Puerto Rico.
Choosing a Hotel or Villa
If you plan to stay for a few days with just one person, it may be a good idea to pick a hotel. You may want to experience an all-inclusive resort to have your spa session and other amenities available while being close to all of the hot spots. It’s a fun and stylish way to take in the island’s main attractions.
Also, you may want to participate in snorkeling, surfing, and other activities in a package deal.
A villa may be a better choice if you’re familiar with the island and want to have your whole family there. You can have more privacy, save on different costs, and get ample space to house your relatives.
Additionally, you can do things at a pace that suits your family without anyone bothering you.
Knowing When to Travel
Not all islands have a hurricane season, but it’s best to plan. It’s not fun having to cancel your trip or stay in your hotel room for a few days because of inclement weather.
Also, you don’t want to go when all the tourists want to travel to the islands. Airline and hotel prices may rise because of the higher demand.
It may be better to go in the offseason if you’re on a budget. You might be able to take advantage of
some exclusive deals due to the lack of tourism.
Pick the ideal time to choose your dream island destination for you and your loved ones.
